What to Do If Your Motorcycle Is Towed After an Accident
How to locate a towed motorcycle, preserve its condition, control storage charges, and move it into a documented collision-repair intake.
Confirm the motorcycle’s exact location, tow operator, daily storage terms, release requirements, keys and loose parts held, and who currently authorizes movement. Obtain the tow record, photograph the motorcycle before a second move, notify the appropriate insurer, and arrange transport to the chosen inspection or repair location without riding it.

Locate the motorcycle
Record the facility name, street address, phone number, tow reference, arrival time, and current access hours.
Ask for written charges and release terms
Confirm tow, mileage, storage, gate, administrative, and transfer charges and what identification or authorization is required.
Check keys and loose parts
Ask the yard to identify every key, detached component, bag, personal item, and document held with the motorcycle.
Photograph before release
Capture whole-bike condition, contact areas, VIN, mileage, loose parts, loading points, and any change from scene photographs.
Coordinate the claim and destination
Give the insurer the storage location while preserving the owner’s separate decision about the repair facility.
Document the second transport
Use a motorcycle-capable carrier and record pickup, delivery, condition, and items transferred.

Why storage needs daily attention

Confirm whether the motorcycle can be inspected at the yard, whether appointments are required, and whether the yard permits the chosen transporter to collect it.
Preserving condition across two transports
The first tow may occur under emergency conditions. Before the next move, document the motorcycle, detached parts, straps or contact areas that remain visible, and the condition at delivery.
Tell the next carrier about non-rolling wheels, locked or damaged steering, leaks, loose luggage, broken controls, low clearance, and motorcycle weight.
