Case 03 · Luggage and body-system inspection
Gray Harley-Davidson Ultra Limited: cracked panels are only the visible layer.
The gray-and-black Ultra Limited photo set records damage around a side cover, Tour-Pak edge and trim, body mounting areas, and partially exposed components. Vision treated the luggage system as an assembly instead of writing a cosmetic-only note.

A touring body system is more than painted shells.
On an Ultra Limited, the visible finish sits over liners, latches, seals, hinges, brackets, rails, lighting, speakers, wiring, fasteners, and model-specific trim. A crack in one cover can be obvious while a shifted support or damaged attachment point remains hidden. The photographed condition therefore becomes the starting layer: overall alignment, exterior finish, edge damage, broken or missing material, taped stabilization, access points, and the condition of adjacent components are documented before a repair method is selected.
Establish left-to-right context
Full motorcycle views show the fairing, front lighting, crash protection, bags, Tour-Pak, seat area, and stance. That context lets later close photographs be tied to a precise zone instead of becoming anonymous damage images.
Track cracks to their mounts
The photographed side cover has broken material near a mounting region. Inspection needs to include the receiving bracket, grommet or fastener, adjacent panel, frame-side clearance, and any harness routed behind the cover.
Check structure, seal, and trim
The top-case edge and trim show localized damage. Fit, latch engagement, hinge movement, sealing surface, liner, lighting or speaker connections, and rack or rail alignment are separate review points.
Document temporary restraints
Tape or other temporary retention can keep loose bodywork from moving during transport, but it is not evidence of correct alignment or repairability. The underlying edge and mounting condition still need direct inspection.
Plan adjacent appearance
Repair or replacement decisions affect color match, graphics or pinstriping, clearcoat, chrome and black trim, and the appearance of neighboring parts. Finish planning should be written at the assembly level.
Define completion before assembly
The closing checklist should cover secure attachment, even gaps, latch operation, seal contact, lighting or audio functions where equipped, fastener confirmation, and a final condition record after reassembly.
Photographic evidence from the project.
These images were selected from the Vision Performance project file. VIN photographs and readable license-plate photographs are intentionally excluded from the public case study.

Evidence standard
A photograph can establish visible damage, location, and context. It cannot by itself prove whether a hidden bracket is in specification, whether a component is repairable under the applicable procedure, or whether an insurer will authorize the proposed operation. Those findings belong in measurement, procedure, estimate, and authorization records.
